Canadian Nitrate Film Preservation Centre

The Library and Archives Canada has opened a new Nitrate Film Preservation Centre in Ottawa.

What is nitrate film you ask?  Well nitrate film is what they used to make film stock out of before cellulose acetate or polyester was invented.  Nitrate film is extreme combustable so proper storage and handling is required, polyester or cellulose acetate film is safer (that is why some modern film stocks say Safety Film on it).

Click here to read the Ottawa Citizen article and to see Program alumni Carla Kluck, who is a Digital Imaging Technician at Library and Archives Canada, show off the equipment at the new Nitrate Film Preservation Centre.

They are attempting to win the Hot 89.9 Royal Bounty and if they do they are donating the $100,000 prize to these two great charities.

Anne Geddes App

Anne Geddes' photography is very unique and beautiful, she is also quite and innovative business person.

Recently a documentary about her new photo series Beginnings was released along with two Apps.
One is a preview of her new book Anne Geddes HD.  The other is a game called Anne Geddes MatchUp which is an rather unique way to showcase her work, the game is somewhat addictive too.
