Bill C-11 Passes The House

Copyright reform has been a long time coming in Canada and this week bill C-11 passed its final vote in the House of Commons.  It now moves to the Senate where it appears that it will have no problem passing.

This new bill has some interesting implications for photographers, videographers, musician and others who create, distribute and consume digital media.  It is definitely worth taking a look at and following the debate.

Below is another interesting document that outlines the Rights of Photographer in Ontario, click the image for a better view.

James & Sandra Zagon Honoured

Garry Carter & Sandra Zagon
This evening at the Annual Media & Design Hall of Fame Gala James Zagon was inducted into the Media & Design Hall of Fame.  This honour was presented posthumously to his wife Sandra Zagon.

Along with a very generous donation of James Zagon's photographic gear Sandra founded the James Zagon Memorial Scholarship here at the college.  This is an annual Scholarship that awards two to three Photography Students with a scholarship of $750 each since 2003.

Once again the Staff, Faculty and Students would like to thank Sandra and James for their generosity and support of the Photography Program and photographic education.

For those that want some more info on the photographic work of James Zagon check out this link.

TO DONATE TO THE JAMES ZAGON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND:

If you would like to donate to the James Zagon Memorial Scholarship Fund click this link www.canadahelps.org, search for the Algonquin College Foundation and then select the James Zagon Memorial Scholarship Fund from the Fund/Designation drop down menu.

The fund is currently at $60K which earns interest and it is this interest which will continue to be given to needy and deserving photography students at Algonquin College, thank you.

Advisory Committee - Spring 2012

We just had our bi-annual Advisory Committee Meeting, for those who don't know what the Advisory Committee is let us tell you what they do.

According to the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities' Framework for Programs of Instruction all college and university  programs need Advisory Committees to Advise, Validate and Approve program learning outcomes.

"Ongoing input from industry and the community, through Advisory Committees, is essential for the College to maintain and enhance program standards, and to keep programs relevant to ensure the College graduates are well prepared for employment." AA01

What makes these committees even more special is that they are made up of industry professionals who volunteer their time.

We are very privileged to have great people on our Advisory Committee who's insights are always greatly appreciated.  Thanks again to all the committee members for taking the time to come out today!!
